Cottage de Kikker (the Frog)
Cottage de Kikker is a fully renovated original thatchers house, located in Lexmond in National park the Zouweboezem. The most beautiful nature of the Vijfheerenlanden region can be found here. You will enjoy a great stay here, with possibilities of hiking, cycling and bird watching.
The charming holiday house offers all the peace and privacy you could possibly ask for, and is still very centrally located (Utrecht 30 km, Amsterdam appr. 60 km).
The house is the last one on the Boezemweg, and can be reached via an asphalted road. The nearest neighbours are about a kilometer away.
The name of the house is due to the old mill 'De Kikker', that used to be here some thirty years ago.
The accommodation
The accommodation consists of two buildings. The completely renovated house has four sleeps on the sleeping attic. The newly built barn has two sleeps. See all the facilities below. For more pictures go to the homepage of this site.

surroundings: Zouweboezem, lexmond, ameide, vianen
Cottage de Kikker is located in Lexmond, a small village in the province of Zuid-Holland. The cottage is outside the village centre, at the very end of the Boezemweg, in a nature reserve called the Zouweboezem. The are no direct neighbours, so you can fully enjoy your privacy. The scenery in this area is beautiful.
Nature reserve the Zouweboezem
Grasslands, water and reed marsh form the landscape. There are a lot of marsh birds that you often can see up close. The views are fantastic and the landscape will enchant you.
Special birds
This area is unique because of the special marsh birds living here. In the vast reed land you can find the biggest breeding colony of the purple heron in the Netherlands. Other birds in the Zouweboezem are the black tern, the crake, cetti songbird and the March harrier. The nature reserve is an important stop for migratory birds, and it attracts a lot of nature lovers, bird watchers and hikers. From the cottage you can easily reach a bird watching spot nearby.
Hiking and cycling
In the Zouweboezem and the adjacent polder of Achthoven you'll find ample hiking possibilities. There are several viewpoints to enjoy the scenery. There is a wooden path through the reed lands. From the cottage you can easily follow the network of touristic cycling paths, and visit for example historic Vianen or the old fortified city of Nieuwpoort. Two bicycles are at your disposal during your stay.
Villages and cities
The lovely nearby villages Lexmond, Ameide, Oudewater and Leerdam are certainly worth a visit. You can explore the old 'Heksenwaag' in Oudewater, or visit the National Glass Museum in Leerdam. The city of Vianen still has parts of its medieval city walls and other interesting historical features. Big cities like Utrecht (30 km) or Amsterdam (60 km) are not far away and can easily be reached by car.
Winter beauty
In winter time the landscapes are fantastic as well. When King Winter settles down, you can skate on the river Zederik. And when you get back in from the cold, you will enjoy the cosy fireplace and warm up quickly.
